Massage therapists must work
together with physicians and health care providers
to develop a treatment ideal for your condition.
According to your current health conditions, some
types of body work and or certain areas of the
body may need to be avoided.
Massage is generally performed for musculoskeletal
discomfort, circulation enhancement, relaxation
and pain control.
Massage should be avoided at any sign of infectious
diseases suggested by fever, nausea and lethargy
until a diagnosis is received and recommendations
given by a physician.
If you are currently under a physician's care
you should contact them to release you for massage
therapy and a thorough health history should
be obtained on your first visit.
Give a complete list of all medications including
anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, anti-coagulants,
analgesics or any that alter sensations or muscle
tone, standard reflex reactions, cardiovascular
function, kidney or liver function or personality.
